Thyroid The thyroid gland produces hormones that are essential for normal body metabolism. This gland is located in the
lower part of the neck, below the Adam's apple. The gland wraps around the windpipe (trachea). The thyroid gland uses iodine (mostly available from the diet in foods such as seafood, bread, and salt) to produce
thyroid hormones. These hormones are essential for the function of every cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions (metabolism) in the body. They also help regulate heart rate, blood pressure,
body temperature, and the rate at which food is converted into energy. Notice that the thyroid itself is regulated by another gland that is located in the brain, called the pituitary gland. In turn, the pituitary is
regulated in part by the thyroid (via a "feedback" effect of thyroid hormone on the pituitary gland) and by another gland called the hypothalamus. Feel free to download the complete Reiki Treatment guide here! |
